English translation | Going Ashore

Ausgangspunkt dort war die Definition des Begriffes „Kartografie“ von Judith Schalansky (Atlas der abgelegenen Inseln). Sie beschreibt darin die Poesie des Atlas, den Akt des Aufsuchens fremder Orte und die maßlose Sehnsucht nach der ganzen Welt. Auf das von ihr beschriebene Fernweh und Reisen antworten wir nun mit einem „Ankommen“, das sowohl den Umzug der Galerie in die Potsdamer Straße und das Erkunden des neuen Ortes beschreibt, als auch die Beschäftigung mit dem Begriff in einer abstrakteren Form. Zentrum der Ausstellung Land in Sicht war eine kollektive Wandcollage. Auch diesmal erweitert eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit die Einzelpositionen. Die KünstlerInnen haben für Anlanden eine Raumprojektion entwickelt, die eine Art Vermessung der neuen Räume bildet und somit wiederum das Anlanden am neuen Ort thematisiert. Die heterogenen Einzelpositionen der KünstlerInnen fügen sich in und mit diesem Raumkonzept zu einer Gesamtinstallation zusammen.

„Ein Territorium ist immer auf dem Weg zur Deterritorialisierung, zumindest potentiell, auf dem Weg zum Übergang zu anderen Gefügen, selbst auf die Gefahr hin, dass das andere Gefüge eine Reterritorialisierung in Gang setzt (irgend etwas, das dem Zuhause entspricht)…“

Going Ashore

The starting point there was the term “cartography” as defined by Judith Schalansky (Atlas der abgelegenen Inseln [Atlas of Remote Islands]). Therein she describes the poetry of the atlas, the act of travel to foreign places, and the boundless desire for the entire world. The wanderlust and travel described by her we now respond to with an “arrival” pertaining to the gallery’s move to Potsdamer Straße and reconnoitering of the new location as well as to an investigation of the term in a more abstract way. The centerpiece of the exhibition Land in Sicht was a collective wall collage. This time around, too, a group effort expands the individual positions. For Anlanden the artists have developed a spatial projection amounting to something of a survey of the new premises, thus thematizing anew the going-ashore at a new location. Within and by way of this spatial concept the artists’ heterogeneous individual positions merge to an aggregate installation.

A territory is always bound for de-territorialization, at least potentially, bound for transition to other structures, even at the risk of the other structure initiating a re-territorialization (anything akin to home) …
